I lean against the door frame, my arms crossed, and I gaze at you while you sleep. You are peaceful as your chest gently rises and falls with each breath. I long to be under the quilt with you, but it's as if your bed is unreachable from the doorway.
But there's something pleasurable about watching you, just gazing with admiration. Able to look at you without being asked what I'm thinking. I long for the warmth of your body against mine as we lie together, sleeping.
I smile.
My eyes snap open to find my arms curled around my teddy bear. You're not there. Nor will you ever be. I gaze sadly at the bear and sigh. I pull the bear in closer and close my eyes.
